The common health problems which may be caused due to obesity are as follows:-

a)      High blood pressure

It is a common problem and mostly occurs in overweight people. The heart pumps blood at a much increased pressure to supply blood to the body. The normal blood pressure is 120/80 mm Hg; however these levels are much higher in obesity.

Also, high blood pressure puts excess pressure on heart and its cardiovascular function. In case of very high blood pressure, doctors prescribe medicines to bring it to the normal rate. It is also advised to reduce salt in the diet and reduce weight.

b)      Type 2 diabetes

It is a common form of diabetes where insulin production is less or stopped in the body. As a result of this, the blood glucose level rises in the body. Insulin is responsible to breakdown the sugar and release energy. When the insulin formation is less, it is difficult to control blood sugar level.

This is known as type 2 diabetes. This is mostly observed in overweight people. This is because of the fact that excessive weight makes the cells insulin resistant and therefore blood sugar is not absorbed by the cells. This is a serious problem and may lead to several consequences like heart problems, kidney disease and blindness.

c)       Cancer

Although the root cause of cancer is not known, obesity is considered to be one of the factors contributing to this disease. Cancer in simple terms is the abnormal growth of body cells. People who gain weight are more prone to this disease. The major cause is the deposition of fat.

The fat cells release hormones which stimulate cell growth leading to cancer. It is a fatal disease and must be attended immediately once diagnosed.

d)      Breathing problem

Obese people usually develop breathing problem. It is because they have fat deposited everywhere specially in the windpipe and the neck region. This makes the airway passage smaller; hence you experience difficulty in breathing. It is  also known as sleep apnoea in which the person may experience loss of breathe in short term.

We have discussed here the major disease; however there may be problems such as osteoarthritis, liver disease, kidney failure, pregnancy complications etc. Adopt a healthy lifestyle and keep your weight under check.
